Our Food

Armidale Uralla Meals on Wheels strives to produce tasty nutritional meals to our customers, offering a variety of meal choices each day whilst catering for dietary preferences, food intolerances and medical conditions. Every day our menu includes a gluten-free option and a vegetarian option.  We can cut up meals for people with restricted movement and dexterity or we can create texture modified meals for customers with swallowing difficulties.

We run our menu on a 3 week cycle to ensure variation for our regular customers. We also overhaul the menu between summer and winter so that appropriate meals are being offered to suit the season and available produce.

Some of our regular meal options include:

  • Silverside & White Sauce
  • Mustard Glazed Meatloaf
  • Steakettes in Diane Sauce
  • Creamy Tuscan Chicken

as well as ‘Meat & 3 Veg’ favourites like

  • sausages
  • rissoles
  • savoury mince
  • roast chicken.

Sausages & Veg – One of our clients took a photo of his re-heated frozen meal to show his children that he was eating properly!

Plus we offer additional gourmet meals as a treat once a week – roast pork, lamb loin chops or chicken mignon are the current specials.

Our hearty soups include all the traditional favourites such as pea & ham, tomato, chicken noodle, oxtail & vegetable or potato & leek, just to name a few.

There are also options for customers to order sandwiches, protein smoothies, juice and a range of tasty desserts.

Pricing for our meals varies – depending on the size and selections you make. If you are referred to us through MyAgedCare and can receive our subsidised meal pricing,

  • a Mini-meal is $6.50
  • our regular meals & salads are $8.00
  • a pack that includes dessert & juice is $9.50
  • Sandwiches start at $5.00
  • Soups are $2.50.

We work hard to ensure we are keeping up to date with the most current nutritional information about food for older people. The Australian Meals on Wheels Association developed a set of National Meal Guidelines which were launched in 2017.

These have allowed us to review our services against a set of standards that were created by a team of dieticians and nutritionists who referred to all the recent studies around what food is required in different life stages.

It’s a comprehensive document that helps all MOW services develop their meal services in line with best practice.
